joining StepUp Communications + design briefs
This year has been quite eventful for me in several ways. Everything from joining the association that’s been on my radar to dealing with runaway clients.
I’ve just recently joined GDC/BC, which I’m very excited about. GDC/BC has been on my radar for the past 2 years but only now that I finally joined and decide to become active immediately so I make the best use of my time and financial investment. I’m still active with IABC/BC and taking on more responsibility.
On the employment side, I’ve just joined StepUp Communications Inc., a communication design firm based on East Vancouver that focuses on employee (internal) communications. I’m excited to work with them.
Do you need some design work done? It has been my philosophy that my [potential] clients are experts at their organizations and what they do, and as a professional, my expertise (and my fellow colleagues in the same trade) lies in helping my [potential] clients to communicate who they are and what they do to their audience. However, not everyone is a design professional and here’s what you can do to save your time and effort for both sides – a design brief. This one [read] is in a form of a questionnaire, which will help you write a design brief.
As a freelancer, you are bound to at least come across one or two (hopefully not more) runaway clients. I mean runaway clients as those who got you to do the work but they decided to pay less or not pay at all. They come in all shapes and forms. Some of the pointers from smashing magazine here isn’t directly related to dealing with runaway clients but it can be a proactive measure to avoide working with clients that likes to runaway. Other than that, of course, a written contract.
